MIG and TIG welding have long been considered the gold standard when it comes to welding smaller components together. This is mostly due to the excellent finish of the twowelding options. On the downside, welding with such methods require a great level of skill and do have a few steep disadvantages.

This has caused new technology, more specifically, laser welding and its smaller counterpart, mini laser welder, to be more favored by professional welders. They outperform traditional welding methodsin many ways including the fact that the highly focused laser beam does not heat up the rest of the metal and so does not deform it either – a very common theme with other methods of welding.

A mini laser welder works very similar to a typical laser machine but it has a smaller footprint and is more portable, which may be important for workspaces where space is scarce. As in the case of TIF welding, filler material is required with certain welding tasks. However, since the laser beam is highly focused, the heat output on the material is much less and the parts can be used almost immediately.

A mini laser spot welder is used when laser spot welding is required. This non-contact process creates one weld spot using a laser to weld together metals. A laser beam is able to deliver a beam of highly accurate light with adjustable durations and repeatable energy.

When the laser pulse is directed to one spot (anywhere from 0.1 – 2 mm), the energy density increases. This is absorbed by the material and the focused beam, drills and melts that spot of the metal. When the beam is turned off, the liquid metal flows back, solidifying in the process and creating a spot weld. The whole process does not take more than a few milliseconds.
